Fossil discoveries and treasure trove.
Most of the discoveries may be taken home and kept. The Fur Museum offers as a service to identify your fossil discovery – in summer at certain times and according to arrangement. Get more information on the home page of the museum or at tel.: 9759 3411.
Treasure trove belonging to the Danish State
Very few fossils (for instance birds and turtles) are of such a special nature that they are declared to be part of the treasure trove. The Treasure Trove Act stipulates that the discovery belongs to the Danish State. Fossil evaluation takes place at the Geological Museum of Copenhagen. If the discovery is declared to be part of the treasure trove, compensation corresponding to the value of the discovery will be awarded.
